Health care just got more affordable for Wal-Mart employees. The retail giant has announced that they're adding coverage for generic prescription drugs in their health plan for employees. Employees will pay just $4 a prescription. Wal-Mart will also start offering plans with lower premiums and deductibles. This marks the third straight year that Wal-Mart has lowered health care costs for employees.
Linda Dillman, executive vice president of risk management, benefits and sustainability at Wal-Mart, said: “Our health coverage next year will be even stronger, offer more options and give people more tools to help them save money and live better lives.”
Even critics gave Wal-Mart credit for the move:
“It's a marked improvement from Wal-Mart's previous plan,” said Nu Wexler, a spokesman for Wal-Mart Watch — a group that has been highly critical of Wal-Mart’s business and labor practices.
