Wrigley Gum Gets ADA Approval in General Healthcare

The American Dental Association recently approved three sugarless chewing gums from Wrigley (Orbit, Eclipse, and Extra) to carry the ADA's seal. That's a pretty big step for gum — it's the first time the ADA has ever put their seal on a pack of chewing gum.

The Wrigley gums were studied by the ADA, finding they did indeed prevent cavities, reduce plaque, and strengthen teeth. The studies were reviewed and confirmed by independent researchers, according to an article by the Associated Press and the Chicago Tribune.

"[The council has] concluded that there are some health benefits to chewing these products three times a day for 20 minutes," said director of the ADA's seal of acceptance program, Clifford Whall.

This doesn’t mean you should stop brushing and flossing.

Maybe this kind of gum has nutritional value in it? If this is so, then what is it? Or it is proven to prevent cavities, unlike any other gum products in the market. It is both good news and surprising one.
