Walgreens Gets In On the Retail Health Clinic Trend in General Healthcare

Walgreens, the nationwide pharmacy and retailer, will add nearly 400 in-store medical clinics this year, according to the Tampa Tribune. The Take Care Health Clinics provide affordable, routine care to walk-in patients.

Pharmacy retailers have been providing more and more routine medical services in the past two years. CVS has been opening Minute Clinics in many of their locations, providing services similar to the ones the Take Care clinics provides. Wal-Mart is also looking to open clinics in its stores, planning on having 400 locations within the next 3 years.

The clinics are staffed with nurse practitioners, and provide care for minor injuries and illnesses. They offer a way for people to get care fast — without paying the cost of a visit to a doctor’s office. On average, a visit to a Take Care clinic costs between $50 – $80 dollars.
