SK&A Information Services, Inc. recently conducted a study showing which health plans were most widely accepted among physician offices nationwide. The initial results of the study showed that more physician offices accept UnitedHealth plans by a narrow margin over Blue Cross Blue Shield.
According the SK&A’s study, insurance plans from UnitedHealth are accepted in 64.8 percent of physicians’ offices around the country. Blue Cross Blue Shield comes in a close second, accepted by 64.4 percent office-based physicians, reported Insurance News Net.
The other insurance companies in the top five include Humana, Aetna, and CIGNA.
The study also measured the number of offices who accept the government-sponsored plans Medicare, Medicaid, and Worker’s Compensation. Medicare was the health plan accepted by most physicians.
“The new SK&A [study’s] data is useful intelligence for health care companies who provide valuable services to consumers and patients, and organizations, ” said President and COO of SK&A, Dave Escalante.
For patients, these findings help show which plans are accepted most universally on a nationwide level. But many insurance companies offer plans on a state-by-state basis, as well. Be sure to check with local agents to find out which plans are accepted by health care providers in your area.
