AHIP Survey Finds Most HSA Plans Cover Preventive Care
Friday Dec 14, 2007AHIP Survey Finds Most HSA Plans Cover Preventive Care in Individual Health Insurance
America’s Health Insurance Plans (AHIP) recently released a survey that found most health plans compatible with Health Savings Accounts (HSAs) provide comprehensive preventive care coverage.
HSA plans are only compatible with high-deductible health plans, which have a deductible of at least $1,100 for individuals and $2,200 for families. But most of these plans won’t require you to meet the deductible before it covers preventive care.
According to the survey, HSA plans provide coverage for immunizations, well-baby and well-child care, annual physicals, health screenings, Pap tests, mammography, prostate cancer screenings, and colonoscopies.
“HSA plans have been a valuable new coverage option — especially for those who had been uninsured previously — and are providing consumers with access to important preventive health care services,” said AHIP President and CEO Karen Ignagni, in a press release.
It also found that just about all large and small group HSA plans provide this “first dollar” coverage for preventive care.
But even though HSA plans can offer businesses affordable coverage for their employees, they still haven’t caught on with small firms.
