There’s no March Madness of health care. But if there
was, Minnesota
would have taken the number one seed in 2007.
In an annual report, Minnesota just edged out Wisconsin for the title for best health care system in the U.S.
The report was conducted by the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality. It ranks every state’s health care system based on more than 200 different measures, reported the Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel.
What does a state’s score depends on? Here are just a few factors: quality of preventive care, chronic care, ambulatory care, cancer care, and hospital care.
According to The Business Journal of Milwaukee, both Minnesota and Wisconsin received improved ratings in 2007 compared to 2006.
“[The report scores] all of the measures that we consider to be an indicator of health care quality,” said Karen Ho, the lead staffer on the report.
Last year Wisconsin held the highest health care rating. But even though the Badger State didn’t get the top score, they have implemented a number of health care initiatives — such as the prescription drug benefit for all and expanded children’s health insurance coverage.
Ho also pointed out that both states still have done very well in delivering high-quality health care to their residents.
“The difference between the first rank and the second rank shouldn’t be viewed as a large difference,” said Ho.
