U.S. House Of Representatives Committee Passes Veterans’ Health Care Bills in Politics and Legislation

U.S. CapitolYesterday, the Veterans’ Affairs Committee in the U.S. House of Representatives approved two different bills aimed to help veterans get access to care.

The first bill ensures veterans who live farther than 60 miles from a Veterans’ health care facility can receive care from other providers.

But the bill’s details give some flexibility to the 60-mile provision. If traveling for care is “not in the best interest of the veteran,” according to a CongressDaily article, they can receive care from a non-Veterans’ Affairs health facility.

A second bill approved in the House Committee will allow severely disabled veterans to receive care in hospitals and nursing homes without a copayment.

The second measure also contains provisions that expand mental health care coverage for veterans and require the creation of a comprehensive pain plan.
