Massachusetts Health Insurance Companies Will Cover Retail Clinic Visits in Individual Health Insurance

bandagesHealth insurance coverage for Massachusetts residents keeps getting better and better.

A few of the biggest health insurers in the state are going to cover health care services provided by in-store retail clinics.

The retail health clinics started to catch on with major chains such as CVS, Wal-Mart, and Walgreens because they provided urgent care at low costs — a big benefit for anyone who is uninsured.

And while the idea has had a few hiccups, such as low profitability for stores, patients seem satisfied with both the cost and quality of the care.

The insurance companies in Massachusetts jumping on the retail clinic band wagon include Harvard Pilgrim Health Care and Tufts Health Plan, both of whom have signed deals with CVS Caremark and their in-store care facility, MinuteClinic.

Blue Cross Blue Shield of Massachusetts is also in negotiations with CVS and Walgreens, reported the Boston Herald.
