Poll Find Most Americans Want Health Care Change in Individual Health Insurance

doctorA new poll conducted by the Commonwealth Fund, a non-profit health care organization, found over 80 percent of Americans want major change in our health care system in the U.S.

Here’s the poll broken down a bit further: 82 percent said the health care system needed fundamental change or a complete rebuilding; 16 percent said the system only needs minor reform.

There wasn’t even much difference between those who have health insurance and those who don’t — 81 percent of insured Americans and 89 percent of uninsured thought the system needed a fundamental change or complete rebuilding.

The poll also found that 9 out of 10 people thought health insurance should be simplified, reported a Reuters article.

Seems like there’s pretty broad agreement among everyone that our health care system needs more than just a face-lift.

“It’s clear that our health care system isn’t giving Americans the health care they need and deserve,“ said Commonwealth Fund president, Karen Davis.

While many Americans are waiting for solutions to our healthcare crisis, the trend in medical tourism seems to be on the rise. More and more citizens are traveling the world for medical procedures where the cost are a fraction of what they are here in North America. Of course safety is the biggest concern when considering healthcare abroad. Although medical tourism is not a solution to our healthcare crisis, it sure can be a viable alternative to someone that is suffering in pain and cannot afford the high cost in the US. Companies that provide medical tourism facilitation, such as MedRetreat have been established to help Americans travel abroad safely to receive their procedures. This trend in medical tourism will surely grow.
