Norvax Health Insurance Survey Finds 15 Percent of All Shoppers Online Are Uninsurable in Individual Health Insurance

Powered by NorvaxThe number of people who are going online to find their health insurance plan is growing and will likely continue to grow for years to come.

What can consumers like us say? We like the convenience of the Internet.

Here’s the proof: GoHealthInsurance.com gets almost 5,000 visitors daily. Most of these visitors aren’t looking for a health insurance blog (sniff), but they’re looking to buy a health plan and/or want to get free health insurance quotes and compare rates.

So what does an online health insurance shopper look like?

Recently, Norvax, Inc. conducted a research study looking at the demographic data of that online health insurance shopper, wrote the Health Blog at the Wall Street Journal.

Among the very interesting results, the Norvax report found that, in total, just over 15 percent of online shoppers are uninsurable.

A person is typically considered ‘uninsurable’ if they have serious pre-existing health conditions or have a body mass index (BMI) of 39 or higher. Health insurance companies determine whether a person is uninsurable and set monthly premiums in a process called underwriting.

The report also found that a majority of those who shop online for health insurance are females between the ages of 20 and 49 years old.

The Norvax report data came from just over 446,500 online shoppers from June to August of this year.
