U.S. House of Representatives Outlines Health Insurance Reform Bill
Tuesday Jun 09, 2009U.S. House of Representatives Outlines Health Insurance Reform Bill in Politics and Legislation
Now that legislation is starting to
take shape, there won’t be any big surprises coming out of the U.S.
House of Representatives.
The House bill contains just about everything we’ve been talking about for the past year — the bill would create an insurance exchange, a public-private health insurance plan, and require all businesses and individuals to obtain health insurance.
Also, the bill would prohibit health insurance companies from denying applicants if they have pre-existing health conditions or a poor medical history.
So, nothing ground-breaking yet — until of course it gets signed into law.
Of course these provisions, particularly the public-private plan, will face resistance from the private health industry along with most Republican lawmakers.
Already, Senate Republicans wrote a letter to President Obama arguing that a public plan would be a backdoor to single-payer, government-controlled health insurance, reported Reuters.
The article did say that lawmakers reminded everyone what they had so far was still just an outline.
