Democrats Campaigning Against Health Care Reform?

questionmarkAs the Coverage Corner mentioned last week — Democrats are changing health care reform rhetoric and the way they promote its benefits. But now some Democrats, who are campaigning for elections in November, are only campaigning for reform if they voted against it.

Politico reports that five Democrats have included a message that they voted against health care reform in their ads, while not a single House Democrat is running an ad that they did vote for reform.

In fact, a Democratic incumbent has not run an ad promoting reform since April. And the Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid was the last Democrat to run an ad touting reform.

As support for health care reform has fallen within the past few weeks and news that health insurance costs may rise due to reform — Democrats are avoiding the subject.

Yet, it is still uncertain whether it will make a difference if Democrats voted for health care reform or not. Polls have shown that voters may not really care and that the economy is a bigger issue among most voters.

There are only 34 House Democrats that voted against reform and as November elections come around, people can expect to see more advertisements from Democrats that voted “no.”
