Golden Rule was founded in 1940 as a family business in the home of Michael Andrew and his wife, Mary Frances. Then in 1948, their son, Pat joined the team establishing a sales agency for the budding insurance company.

As their business expanded, the small home in Lawrenceville, Illinois just wasn’t big enough. They moved into an office in Lawrenceville’s town square in 1961.

By 1970, they had over 150 employees and opened a new office in Indianapolis, Indiana. Now, Indianapolis is still where their main headquarters lives.

Golden Rule Today

Today, Golden Rule offers their health insurance plans in 28 U.S. states. They give their members assurance they can count on prompt customer service — 94% of Golden Rule’s claims are processed in 10 days or less.

They’re also a key supporter of consumer-driven health care. The Health Savings Account and high-deductible health plans help give policyholders control over their health care dollars. With tax-free savings, members can direct their own money to the care they choose.

Through 60 years of business, Golden Rule has established a financially strong and stable company. They’re recognized by A.M. Best and Standard and Poor for their operational performance and balance sheet strength.

A.M. Best assigned Golden Rule an A (Excellent) rating, while Standard and Poor rated them A+ (strong).
