New Jersey Health Insurance Laws and Regulations

New Jersey health insurance companies cannot deny individuals coverage due to pre-existing conditions. However, individuals can face waiting periods up to a year for coverage on certain medical conditions.

Health insurance coverage is also guaranteed and renewable for New Jersey residents. That means that individuals can renew their plans without regards to their current health status.

New Jersey also requires health insurers to "establish modified community rates" so that rates only vary by age but not on gender, occupation, health status, or geographic location.
