Election 2008

Ron Paul

Dr. Ron Paul is a U.S. Representative from Texas. He has been representing the 14th congressional district since 1997. From 1976 to 1977, he represented Texas' 22nd district, then was elected again in 1979 and served until 1985. He was born on August 20, 1935 in Green Tree, Pennsylvania.

Congressman Paul's Health Care Platform

Ron Paul's health care platform promotes competition in the private market. Paul opposes any mandate from the federal government that requires citizens to buy health insurance.

Changing The Tax Code

Paul believes that the current tax code is unfair to individual buyers in the private market. The Texas congressman would allow all individuals to deduct health insurance premiums and other health care costs from their taxes, just as employers who buy insurance are able to do.

Congressman Paul also opposes any tax increases to bring down the costs of health care. Paul believes innovative legislation can make health care and insurance more affordable.

Free Market Solutions

"I believe strongly that patients are better served by having an element of choice in the matter, which is why I support letting the free-market determine health care costs," said Rep. Paul.

"This won't happen, however, until we unravel the HMO web and change the tax code to allow individuals to fully deduct health care costs from their taxes, as employers can," he added.

Dr. Paul also supports alternative medicine and wants to expand access to new medical treatments.
