Virginia Health Insurance High Risk Pool
Residents in Virginia with pre-existing conditions will have health insurance coverage through the temporary high risk pools established by the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act.
The Pre-Existing Condition Insurance Plan (PCIP) in Virginia will run similar to normal Virginia health insurance policies. The plans will require enrollees to pay affordable premiums and out-of-pocket costs.
Enrollees in the Virginia PCIP will pay around the same amount that people without pre-existing conditions pay for health insurance. The estimated monthly costs for Virginia residents will be $289 for ages 0 to 34; $347 for ages 35 to 44; $443 for ages 45 to 54; $616 for ages 55 and older. The plan has a $2,500 deductible which must be met before health insurance benefits are covered. There is also a $5,950 out-of-pocket limit for a year.
Those eligible for the Virginia plan will have health insurance coverage for hospital and doctor visits, emergency services, prescription drugs and more.
Individuals may apply for the Virginia PCIP program if they are a United States citizen, have been uninsured for six months and have a medical condition.
